East Frisian Islands
In contrast to North Friesland, the East Frisian “geest islands” aren’t remnants of mainland torn asunder by storms but pristine creations of the sea. The strong North Sea currents perpetually remodel sandbanks that the wind initially turns into dunes and eventually whole new islands. The newest addition – Kachelot – can be seen west of Juist. The North Sea coasts of the East Frisian Islands offers rich wave pickings, while at high tide the mudflats offer super-flat water.
