Basque Country

Some legendary surf-spots make a trip to the Basque Country worthwhile. Just seeing Meñakoz or Mundaka on a good day is an unforgettable experience. You might even get to surf one of these perfect walls of water. But you’ll need superb timing to get on the water with a sail or kite – sarcasm aside, good luck! Summertime north-easterly thermals are usually too light, while winter low-pressure winds are either too offshore (south-westerly) or onshore (north-westerly). Onshore winds here don’t just mean messy conditions: it’s a hopeless struggle against monstrous whitewater mountains.
