Eastern Ceara
Still largely unknown at the end of the ’90s, within a few short years Eastern Ceara went from secret spot to one of the most famous winter destinations for European kiters. The impressive reliability of the SE trades and a mixture of standing-depth lagoons and moderate wave spots make for excellent training conditions. Pleasant temperatures, affordable prices and Brazilian lifestyle complete the picture. The heart of the scene and base for most kitesurfers is the former fishing village of Cumbuco, 25km north of Fortaleza. But that’s just a fraction of the region’s huge potential. Endless sandy beaches extend both ways from the 2.5-million metropolis of Fortaleza, peppered with a series of first-class soul-tripping venues.
